From Friday 6th November there is a new addition to the afternoons!

,
A huge thanks to everyone participating in the existing classes but there's more to come............from Friday 6th November, due to increased demand there will be a new puppy/young dog course starting at 3pm-4pm.

The times for the existing classes will remain as they are (12:30pm-1:30pm and 1:45pm-2:45pm) with the brand new class consecutively starting at 3pm.

There are only 4 spaces left on the new class so please contact me absolutely asap and it will be first come first served

Massive thanks again for all the continued support from all my present dog owners and I would like to remind everyone of the Xmas ramble, walking out morning and awards on the next course. I don't have to remind everyone that the standards are incredibly high this year, even amongst the guys on their first course for which there is a brand new award of "Best Newcomer"

Any questions please do not hesitate to contact me

Tony

Sept 11th classes completely full And "Walking Out" morning

,
Fantastic start to our September/October course and I'm pleased to say that both courses are completely full so unfortunately there can be no further additions.

Should anyone new wish to join the next course please contact me asap so you can be entered onto the waiting list. Thank you

Finally, could you all put Oct 4th into your diaries which will be a walking out morning around Ruislip Lido. I have changed the day to a Sunday which I hope will be more convenient to everyone.
As per normal this is a fun stroll and for all the new people a chance to take your pups off the lead in a controlled environment. There will be a stop to take in refreshment at the San Remo cafe after which there will be a few easy exercises. The walk normally takes an hour and a half depending on the weather so please bring appropriate clothing for any eventuality.

thanks again

September 11th Courses

,
Hi Guys,

Due to a minor surge of interest for the September class I am now having two classes 12:30pm-1:30pm and 1:45pm-2:45pm

I will be firming up numbers and allotting class times next week and I will be capping the class numbers to a maximum of ten x 2

Apologies to the evening dog owners who will miss out but I will give you priority on moving to the afternoon classes and I hope to restart the evenings in the new year

End of year courses plus "Best Dog and Owner" awards

,
Hi Folks,

To bring me in line with Christmas I will be running two 7-week courses starting on friday 11th September. This course will run to 23rd October whereupon the next course will run consecutively from Friday 30th October finishing on 11th December.

There will be a "walking Out" morning on each course plus an autumn ramble, dates to be decided.
Unfortunately I will only be running one class over the two courses which will be 1pm-2pm every Friday afternoon. Should I have a lot of interest for this class I will (when the weather obliges) run some of the classes outside to incorporate greater space. The outside classes will be held in Chestnut Avenue park.
I may increase my classes after Christmas when things calm down a bit.

As we are coming to the end of the year I must give consideration to the best dog and owner awards. The categories are:

1) Best dog and Owner

2) Second Placed

3) Third Placed

4) Most improved Dog

Good luck everyone, this is a difficult choice as there are some excellent dogs and handlers to choose from.

On the issue of refunds: I will honour refunds promised from the last course but as from September this practise will stop. There will be no further refunds, sorry guys

Last "Walking Out" morning before summer break and curry evening at the Black Horse

,
Saturday 4th July (Americans welcome) is our final "walking Out" fixture before we all disappear to our holiday destinations. I have ordered lovely weather to accomodate our walk so don't miss this event!

Also on our calender is a curry evening at the Black Horse pub where we have been invited by Nick whose family own the establishment. We will be at the back of the premises where there are a number of small marquees and it is a "semi cook your own kind of meal" although Nick will be on hand to help us. This is planned after our last lesson on Friday 10th July from 8:30pm onwards. Apparently, we will allowed to bring our dogs which will be a complete hoot!! (I will get that confirmed).

Lets make these two events our best yet and it would be great to see all members past and present come along and enjoy themselves

New six week course starting Friday 5th June

,
Where is this year going? This is the last course before the summer holidays, Mrs May and the junior Hornets are counting down the days until we go to Mexico! But, before I don the sun cream and head for the beach bar I want to make sure all my dogs are well-trained and shipshape until September.

Please let me know if you can or can't make this next coming course as I have new people joining all the time and I would not like to turn people away thinking the class is full. My 7:15pm class is proving particularly popular

My class times are as follows:

12:15pm-1:15pm young dogs only

1:30pm-2:30pm slightly older dogs (inexperienced and experienced)

6pm-7pm slightly older dogs (inexperienced and experienced)

7:15pm-8:15pm young dogs only

Also incorporated into the course is a "Walking out" morning at Ruislip Lido where you can let your dog off the lead to have some "Pack Time" around the woods and into the Lido. Guaranteed to have them zonked out for the rest of the day/weekend
Finally, there is a countryside ramble around the Chess valley where we start and finish at the Cock Inn in Sarratt, they do good food and excellent real ales. This is only open to the older dogs as it would be a bit arduous for the pups.

New people very welcome!

Winter Ramble Pictures

,
Great turn out for todays winter ramble and I'm pleased to say that the weather was very kind to us and it hardly snowed at all. The 9 dogs all had a terrific time and I've got to say that I haven't heard a peep out of Minnie for the rest of the day.
No injuries to report although I managed to catch Trish as she vaulted over a stile and David decided to toboggan down the hill side without using a toboggan. Theres no shame in that David but I have to say that none of the ladies suffered any similar mishaps!?!
Anyway,
StixnBones Dog Club all wrapped up and raring to go

Not everyone had to walk

Hill 1 and Trish head down and determined

"Diva" pulling Hazel up the hill, why didn't I think of that!

May be muddy to us but its heaven to the dogs

Treatment of Poisoning

,
The signs of poisoning vary depending on what poison has been swallowed. However, the common signs are:

Vomiting/retching

Violent twitching

Collapse

Should your dog appear to have any of the above, straight to the vets without delay and ALSO, very importantly bring any of the poison with you to the vets so it can be examined and then the correct form of treatment can be administered.

Do not induce vomiting if you suspect that that barbiturates, kerosene or any corrosive has been swallowed, or if the dog is convulsing. I would add that recent poison laid down around the Ruislip area would be considered as corrosive (anti-freeze). If you suspect any illness to your dog, play safe and straight to the vets.

***ATTENTION NEEDED***(Update)

,
Ruislip Woods has had someone apparently putting down meat laced with anti-freeze. Please take every precaution with your dogs particularly just off the main paths. See anything or anyone suspicious......report it!

Our phantom meat marinader has been active again, this time by Links Way Northwood. As you enter the path from Links Way and turn right to go up the sandy path towards Ducks Hill contaminated meat has been found nestling the edge of the paths.

This is in my walk zone so I shall certainly be very active in observing all those around me and paying attention to my dogs.

Please read my article about dealing with Poisoning

"Walking Out" morning and a winter Ramble

,
Saturday 24th January please join me for a walking out morning with our dogs around Ruislip Lido culminating in a cup of tea at "Mino's" cafe and a few easy exercises afterwards. Meet at 9:30am at the top Lido car park
As per normal please wear appropriate clothing for inclement weather and remember: You don't get bad weather, only bad clothes

The following weekend Saturday 31st January there is also a winter ramble...............This will take place in Sarratt where we will meet at the Cock Inn which is at Church Lane, Sarratt, Rickmansworth Hertfordshire WD3 6HH
Please meet at 10:30am in the pub car park
The ramble is a nice leisurely one around the Chess valley but, it has two fairly steep hills and might be tough going in wet weather
At the conclusion of the walk a pint of Spitfire with bangers and mash is the order of the day!

I would like to invite any non-members of Stixnbones to come along to either event as it is very enjoyable and we have a great crowd (and dogs)
